About Us
canvas community started out as the dream of a few individuals who wanted to reach out to folks that ”traditional” church doesn’t reach. You can see the beginnings of our journey here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4fUIMQWjb0
We had our first “cookout” in September 2009! You can see the beginnings of work on the building here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RfQNqAf3D_A&feature=related
In January 2011, Little Rock experienced freezing weather conditions and we opened our doors to our friends on the streets. No questions asked. You can see the first of the warming shelter videos here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J43J74hnoqI&context=C37b8462ADOEgsToPDskKbU9DR29i1sE2xxsHyj8II
In June 2011, we joined WITH* FaithSpring United Methodist Church. You can get a better understanding of the partnership here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AplAOOVQ0E4&feature=related
In November 2011, we hosted “Windows and Mirrors” a traveling art exhibit that features art from the war in Afghanistan. You can see a video of the art here: http://www.arktimes.com/EyeCandy/archives/2011/11/09/windows-and-mirrors-at-canvas-community
In January 2012, we sponsored “The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later” a play at the Weekend Theater that is a followup of the award-winning stage play, “The Laramie Project,” based on the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie. The incident shocked the nation, brutally illustrating just what a hate crime was. You can see a summary of the project here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TOkXd9JOJp4
We are located in the downtown Little Rock area. We are a new United Methodist gathering in the Arkansas Conference. We pride ourselves on being a place where faith, culture and community collide. Come join us — and bring your friends.
We are committed to building authentic relationships through shared experience, celebration and service.
canvascommunity is about meeting you where you are — and offering you the love of Christ.
